Harvesting Hope: A Dialogue on Agriculture and Integral Ecology
Miami Climate Week at Barry University Featuring direct-trade coffee and chocolate tasting!
Join us for an inspiring and thought-provoking event during Miami Climate Week, as we explore the connections between agriculture, climate change, and economics. The program will provide information about the tenets of integral ecology and provide opportunities to engage in the movement for consumer-driven social change.
Hosted at Barry University, this panel will bring together key voices to discuss innovative practices that are transforming our relationship with the earth, our food, and labor systems.
Our distinguished panel will include representatives of:
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) – Advocating for workers’ rights and sustainable agricultural practices, CIW has been at the forefront of ensuring fair wages and working conditions for farmworkers for over 30 years.
The Cafèière et Cacaouyère du Nord Ouest (COCANO) Coffee/Cacao Cooperative: In collaboration with the Miami/Port-de-Paix Global Solidarity Partnership (GSP), COCANO works with farmers in Haiti’s Northwest Department to empower local communities, reforest the land, and build a sustainable socio-economic infrastructure for Haiti’s future.
Exquisito Chocolates: Miami’s original “bean-to-bar” chocolate company, Exquisito chocolates works with cacao farmers throughout South America and the Caribbean to source cacao in fair/direct-trade relationships, and then transforms this cacao into delicious truffles, bars and confections.
The event will be moderated by Courtney Berrien, Director of the Adrian Dominican Institute for Mission and Leadership at Barry University.
Join us in a deep exploration of how sustainable agricultural practices can both mitigate climate change and promote social justice.
